Kashmir Yesterday, India Today 1990

Photographs from the ‘Kashmir’ section of 15th Anniversary issue of India Today published in 1990. If there is a Kashmir ‘special’ issue today in any Magazine, you will probably see similar form of story telling through pictures. Photographers who first figured out the Kashmir template include Raghu Rai, Prashant Panjair and Pramod Pushkarna.

  1. I remembered that picture of Kashmiri Muslims holding pictures of Zia was done in 1988 and not in 1990, just after his death. Obviously India Today took that old picture and used it in their story about Kashmiri Muslims demonstrating against Indian rule back in 1990.

  2. The pictures were presented in the chronological order of the events preceding and leading to 1990. And yes the Zia picture was from the time he died.

  3. She is shattered to invisible pieces, the word 'anger' wont do it…(see caption below the 5th picture)
