Khetchi Mawas, foodies’ peace treaty with Yakshas

After fifteenth day of the dark half of the month of ‘Paush’, Yakshas come down from mountains and roam free in the valley of Kashmir. On this day an old treaty is honored. Rice is cooked with lentils and served to the guardians spirits of Kubera on a plate with cooked radish and some pickle.

  1. Lentils, radish ¡¡¡¡ 1st time i have heard this usually it iseither moong khichdi or mutton biryani … We serve mutton biryani ( synn khychar) with fried radish and Hakh achar pickles. dinesh

  2. That's exactly what you see being served in the photograph. Moong Khichdi with Tchok Muj. Monj Anchaar is not visible from this angle.

  3. Stone represents the Yaksha. It is traditionally supposed to be seated on a particular kind of grass which was not at hand so placed it on some leaves.
