Came across it in “Ladāk, physical, statistical, and historical ; with notices of the surrounding countries” (1854) by Alexander Cunningham. In the book they were given as a reference for comparing with Ladhaki skulls.

Unfortunately in the 19th century and even in the early 20th century, scientists believed that different races had different skulls and intelligence. Hence probably why this Alexander Cunningham created this book, perhaps to prove that the white race was more intelligent than the others. Thankfully these theories have been proven false by the scientific community.
Yes, sizing brain and comparing with european brain was a favourite subject among angreez log. And then there were theories. The theories and studies have come a long way since then. Cunningham did a lot of good work at discovering ancient India but yes at times his thoughts must have been caught in the currents of time.
